- Ptolemy was prominent in mathematics, especially in trigonometry. He applied his mathematical methods to astronomical problems as well. Ptolemy's table of lengths and chords in a circle is the earliest surviving table of a trigonometric function. He also would apply fundamental theorems in spherical trigonometry. He also applied math to his musical theories

Claudius Ptolemaeus or Ptolemy: the Astronomer, Geographer, and Mathematician

Ptolemy is an Egyptian Scientist of Greek descent who is most known for his Ptolemaic system which featured the Sun at the center of the Universe. This theory is well known throughout astronomy. He represents the achievements of Greco-Roman Science.

He is also known for being a great Geographer and Mathematician. He has a prominent place in mathematics since he applied them to his astronomical problems.
His contributions to mathematics are most greatly shown in Trigonometry. Ptolemy's table of length and cords in a circle are especially important because of it being the earliest surviving table of a Trigonometric function. Not much is known about him other than his works and writings.
